COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course consists of 20 modules, 20 quizzes, 20 homelinks (homework) and a final test with a minimum of 30 hours to complete. The course requires the student to complete all components before completing the Final Test. The passing mark is 70% for the overall course.
The information in the CARS eLearning 30-hour course is innovative, detailed and interactive designed to captivate the interest of all ages of new drivers. The CARS curriculum emphasizes a learner-centered approach which challenges students, to draw on personal experiences and decision-making skills, to bring extra meaning to each learning outcome. The course material emphasizes three themes: driver Attitude, driving Skills and current Knowledge (ASK) to encourage each student to be a safe, responsible and cooperative diver. The course consists of 20 modules which provide opportunities to read, learn and apply current driving principles and to complete self-assessment tasks and review assessments to create on-going marks. A final test, of the entire course material, must be passed by all students. The course supports in-vehicle lessons where students will demonstrate the specific skills and knowledge taught in the course and benefit from their own mistakes with the support of a licensed driving instructor. A unique Mentor Booklet is available for downloading by the student to share with her/his experienced driver.
The CARS e-Learning modules start with a study of driver attitude and responsibilities. Next the Modules review licensing, registration, basic driving laws, signs, and traffic signals. Pre-driving and vehicle adjustments are then taught. The 3 concepts of strategic driving (observation, space management and communication) are introduced before discussing driving through major intersections and turning skills. Decision-making and risk management concepts are then presented. Modules covering city, rural and freeway environments are taught using the ‘sharing the road’ concept. Vehicle safety, dealing with collisions, and dangerous driving modules discuss the importance of driver attitude and decision-making. The course then reviews current knowledge on driver impairments, distracted driving, and adverse driving practices. Finally, students review vehicle purchase, insurance, fuel efficiency, and maintenance information. The course finishes with a very practical look at road test preparation.
The CARS e-Learning course uses the Driver’s Handbook and the Highway Traffic Act and Regulations, to provide correct, current and easily understood knowledge. CARS eLearning has chosen many local pictures and familiar driving situations to help students become a safer driver.
